Books. Books. Books. Enough Said.
Recently Reviewed Books
I love books. I could read and read and read until there were no books left on earth. Sadly, I don't have time to do that, so I read what I need to teach, and fit some exceptional YA lit in on the side (because it is quick!). At this time I am reading a few different books:
British Literature: we are in the midst of a unit on Science Fiction at the turn of the 20th century. In response to that I will begin reading Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, one of the first few science fiction novels.
AP English: we are currently finishing a unit of society and man. Almost finished with the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding about a plane being shot down during WWII, with a rambuncious group of choir school boys, and how they recreate society on an island. Hoping to begin Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury tomorrow, to finish our unit on society. This I haven't read before, but I have learned that it is about a society where books are illegal, and tales are passed down from generation to generation. I love to imagine a different world, that I can get to easily through a book.
Speech: Well, I just ordered a sample textbook. Does that count? :)
On my Own: I am midway through a heart-wrenching book on the the true stories of Native American children that were sent to residential school in various locales, including Canada's provinces, called Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy behind Indian Residential Schools by Theodore Fontaine.
Started reading Hunger Games over Christmas break, but it seems I haven't the time to read that right now. Might have to wait until next month.
My Kids and I: just starting a new chapter book by Avi, Poppy's Return about a young mouse who is trying to forge his non-conventional way, in a conservative world.
